As the name suggests, an air receiver is a tank used for storing compressed air, and it is required for most compressed air systems.
Functions of the Air Receiver
Storage Capacity
It stores compressed air to meet the demand of sudden instantaneous surge in air consumption of pneumatic equipment.
Preliminary Air Cooling
While storing compressed air, the air receiver cools the air preliminarily. Contaminants and condensed moisture in the air separate out and settle down, and can be drained via the ball valve at the bottom of the air receiver.
Stabilize Pipeline Pressure
It prevents drastic fluctuations of pipeline pressure in the compressed air system and maintains stable working air pressure.
Reduce Frequent Start-Stop of the Air Compressor
Frequent startup of the air compressor generates extremely high motor starting current, which is approximately five times the normal operating current. This causes severe damage to the electrical components of the compressor, shortens their service life, and creates impacts on the power grid, interfering with the normal operation of other electrical equipment.
Lower Energy Consumption of the Air Compressor
The air compressor runs under no-load condition during startup and shutdown cycles. Frequent start-stop results in unnecessary energy waste. The air receiver minimizes frequent start-stop cycles, ensures continuous operation of the compressor and cuts energy consumption.
Without an air receiver, compressed air is delivered directly to end users. The compressor will repeatedly switch between unloading and loading.
