What to Do When an Air Compressor Fails to Start?
What should you do if your air compressor cannot start? Stay calm, and professional air compressor technicians will guide you.
- Check the power supply. If the power is disconnected, close the power switch to switch on power.
- Blown fuse in the control circuit: Replace the fuse immediately, identify the root cause and resolve the fault.
- Tripped thermal overload relay: Eliminate the overload cause and reset the thermal overload relay.
- Low voltage: Ask the power supply department to inspect the input voltage, compare it with the voltage at the motor terminal, and find out the cause of low voltage.
- Power supply failure: Inspect the power supply section.
- Loose wiring terminals: Check all wiring terminals and fasten any loose connections.
- Faulty temperature sensor: Inspect the sensor; contact professional maintenance personnel for repair if it malfunctions.
- Transformer fault: Check the secondary voltage of the transformer.
- Tripped thermal overload relay: Eliminate the overload cause and reset the thermal overload relay.
Proper maintenance is essential to guarantee stable operation and long service life of the unit. What preparations should be made before maintenance? The maintenance procedures for the screw compressor unit must be strictly followed. Complete the following preparations at least before starting maintenance work:
- Cut off the main power supply and hang a warning sign at the power switch.
- Close the shut-off valve leading to the air supply system to prevent backflow of compressed air into the maintained section. Never rely on check valves to isolate the air supply system.
- Open the manual vent valve to release all pressure inside the system and keep the vent valve open.
- For water-cooled units, shut down the water supply system and release pressure in the water pipeline.
- Make sure the compressor unit has fully cooled down to avoid scalding injuries.
- Clean oil and water stains on the floor to prevent slips.
Four critical precautions during maintenance:
- Do not carry out maintenance work simply because the unit has stopped. The automatic control system may start the compressor at any time.
- Improper maintenance will not only affect normal unit operation but also pose safety risks to operators.
- Do not remove nuts, oil filler plugs or other components while the compressor is running or under pressure.
- Do not use flammable solvents such as gasoline or kerosene to clean air filters or other components.
All operations shall be implemented in accordance with installation and operation instructions. Random makeshift operations may trigger more compressor faults. If you are unsure about maintenance procedures, contact the after-sales service personnel of the air compressor for support.
