The Importance of Dew Point Measurement in Compressed Air Systems
01 What is Dew Point Temperature
Dew point is a temperature parameter, fully named dew point temperature. It refers to the temperature at which water vapor in air begins to condense if the temperature drops further.
When compressed air is cooled, its relative humidity rises. Once the temperature continues to drop to the point where the relative humidity reaches 100%, water droplets precipitate from the compressed air. This temperature is defined as the pressure dew point of compressed air.
The dew point temperature measured at standard atmospheric pressure (1 bar) is known as the atmospheric dew point or normal-pressure dew point.
02 Dew Point Meter Selection and Industry Applications
A dew point sensor, also called a dew point meter, is an instrument that directly measures dew point temperature and falls under the category of temperature and humidity sensors.
When selecting a dew point meter, users need to confirm the dew point measurement range and whether integrated pressure measurement is required. If pressure measurement is integrated, apart from outputting on-site gas pressure, the transmitter can simultaneously display humidity units that require pressure conversion calculations. For instance, while measuring pressure dew point, it can output atmospheric dew point, ppm, g/kg and other humidity parameters in real time.
