Common Misconceptions in Selecting Air Compressor Filters
Filters are an important component of the compressed air purification system. They are mainly used to remove oil mist, liquid water and solid particles from compressed air.
Many people mistakenly believe that the higher the filtration precision of an air compressor filter, the better. This view is incorrect. Higher filtration precision does not always equal better performance; selecting a properly matched air compressor filter is the optimal solution.
Filtration precision refers to the maximum diameter of solid particles that can be intercepted by the filter element of an air compressor filter. Filter elements with higher precision can trap smaller solid particles, yet they are more prone to blockage by larger particles. When selecting air compressor filters, blindly adopting high-precision filters regardless of working conditions cannot improve filtration efficiency (which is related to penetration rate and serves as the most critical indicator for evaluating filter quality). In addition, the service life of the filter will be adversely affected. Filtration precision shall be selected according to the substances to be filtered and the treatment objectives.
There is another widespread misconception during filter selection: users assume that a single filter with precision matching the required air quality can satisfy specifications and cut costs. In fact, although the target air quality is determined by the precision of the final filter, without pre-treatment protection from upstream filters of lower precision, high-precision filter elements will quickly become blocked due to excessive load. This shortens the replacement cycle of filter elements and indirectly raises production costs. Therefore, technical personnel shall make recommendations based on actual user demands to realize rational equipment operation and minimize operating expenses.
Compressed air is being applied in an increasingly wide range of fields as a ubiquitous energy medium. Accordingly, compressed air purification grows more critical. Proper equipment selection is the key to guaranteeing production efficiency and extending equipment service life.
