Detailed Disassembly and Assembly of Air Compressor Coupling
The disassembly and assembly procedures for the coupling of screw air compressors are explained step by step below with reference to the drawing.
First, remove the cap screws on the flexible element and take off the flexible element. Loosen all taper lock bushing mounting screws, take out one or two screws. Lubricate the threads and the tip of the countersunk screws, then insert the screws into the jacking-off holes of the taper bushing (marked with ● on the taper bushing installation drawing). Tighten the screws alternately until the taper bushing loosens inside the hub and can move freely on the shaft. Remove the hub and taper bushing from the shaft.
Remove the protective coating on the inner bore and outer surface of the taper bushing as well as the tapered bore of the hub. Ensure all oil stains and dirt are completely cleared from the mating tapered surfaces, then fit the taper bushing into the hub.
Lightly lubricate the threads on the hub, together with the tips and threads of the screws, and loosely place the screws into the threaded holes of the hub. These threaded holes are marked with ◎ in the drawing.
Clean the main shaft and retaining ring, fit the retaining ring onto the shaft and make it closely against the bearing ring. Install the flat key. Fit one set of hub and taper bushing onto the shaft as an integrated assembly first. Slide the taper bushing clamping ring onto the main unit shaft, turn the end bolt clockwise to compress the retaining ring, taper bushing and bearing ring tightly without gaps.
Note: The taper bushing shall be firmly secured on the shaft first, then slide the hub gently onto the taper bushing.
Use a hexagon socket wrench to gradually tighten each screw alternately to the specified torque. Install the other set of hub and taper bushing onto the motor shaft and keep it loose for adjustment. Place one half of the flexible element around the hub and fix it with self-locking cap screws. Position the motor-side hub by the flexible element, then fasten the motor-side hub following Step (4). Mount the other half of the flexible element, and tighten all cap screws to the specified torque.
Important Note: After the screw air compressor operates under load for a period of time, shut down the unit and check the tightening torque of screws to ensure safe operation!!!
